Steve and Sabrina Bengel combine enthusiasm, entrepreneurship and the love of baseball in bringing baseball back to New Bern with the River Rats. Sabrina serves as Chairman of the Tourism Development Authority, and the New Bern Firemen's Museum. Steve serves as Chairman of the New Bern/JT Barber High School Athletic Hall of Fame and the local BB &T Bank board and is immediate past Chairman of the YMCA Board. Together they are active in the Chamber of Commerce, Breakfast Rotary Club and Downtown Business Council.

Buddy manages the River Rats players and coaches, using his resources to put together a team to contend for the South Division title and the Petitt Cup. He also continues to be involved with the team’s business operations and was instrumental in bringing both the U.S. Military All-Stars and the MLB Alumni Association’s “Legends For Youth Clinic” to New Bern.
Buddy pitched for the United League champion Alexandria (La.) Aces during the 2006 season, his third as a pro. |

Now in his second season as River Rats G.M., Michael manages all day-to-day business operations of the organization. His ten seasons of baseball management experience include eight prior seasons in minor league baseball with teams including the Auburn Astros (Short-A, NY-Penn League), Kentucky Rifles (independent, Frontier League), Waterbury Spirit (independent, Northeast League), Columbus (GA) RedStixx (A, South Atlantic League), Jacksonville (FL) Suns (AA, Southern League) and Salt Lake Stingers (AAA, Pacific Coast League). Michael and his wife Tonya live in New Bern with their daughters Lexi and Marleigh.

Tom is entering his third season as the River Rats radio and web broadcaster. Known both for a smooth delivery and answering real-time e-mails on the air, Tom has quickly become a fan favorite as the "voice" of the River Rats. In 2005, his first season as a broadcaster, Tom was selected to broadcast the CPL All-Star Game in Wilson, NC.
Tom's busy schedule includes a position as an announcer for Public Radio East, appearances on stage with the New Bern Civic Theatre and the Carolinian Shakespeare Festival, playing and teaching bass, and occasional appearances in various roles at Tryon Palace. He lives in New Bern with his wife Betty and Tyler, The Wonder Cat. |

Dave returns to the River Rats for third season as the River Rats P.A. Announcer. Fans at (and around) Boykin Field readily recognize Dave's booming voice, spirited player introductions, and timely sound effects.
Dave is active in many aspects of youth sports in the area, and is the radio voice of the New Bern Bears on ESPN Radio 1490 AM. He lives in New Bern with his wife Jenn, and children Jake, Alyssa, and Jason. |
