In 2006, the River Rats unveiled the Cold Stone Creamery “Field of Dreams Team”--a promotion which honors one youth sports team on the field before each River Rats baseball game. The Field of Dreams team members then stand with River Rats players on the field for the singing of the National Anthem.

“Field of Dreams teams are a staple of minor league and summer college teams across the country, and we were eager to add it to our ballpark experience,” said River Rats General Manager Michael Weisbart. “We were very happy to have such great participation throughout the season.”

More than 20 youth teams participated in the program, which provides free tickets to the team members and coaches. The teams included boys, girls, and mixed teams from baseball, softball, tee ball, and soccer.

“We would like to honor one team before each of our 30 home games during our upcoming 2007 season,” Weisbart said. “I can’t think of any better way to connect our players with the community than to honor these young athletes on our field and to have them interact with our players.”

Field of Dreams teams receive free tickets for all players and coaches and are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Coaches interested in reserving a space for their teams should contact the River Rats office by phone at (252) 675-5689 or by e-mail at info@newbernriverrats.com.
