THREE '06 RATS RETURN TO NEW BERN;
PITCHERS KOEHLER, GLOOR, AND INFIELDER HALL INKED

NEW BERN, NC—Three leaders from the 2006 River Rats team will be returning to New Bern for the 2007 season, River Rats Vice President Buddy Bengel announced today.  Pitchers Tom Koehler (Stony Brook) and Chris Gloor (Quinnipiac) will return to the team this summer, along with infielder Nick Hall (Washington State). 

"All three of these players made important contributions to last year's team," said Bengel.  "We expect that with another year of college experience and last season's wood-bat exposure under their belts, they will be solid contributors this summer."
 
Tom Koehler, a 6-3 righthanded pitcher, was 1-0 with a 0.50 ERA in three starts for New Bern last year.  In18 innings with the River Rats, he struck out 19, allowed just one earned run, and limited opposing batters to a .138 average.  Now a junior for the Stony Brook Seawolves, Tom is 2-4 with a 5.70 ERA.  He has struck out 37 batters in 36 innings pitched.
 
Chris Gloor, a 6-6 lefthanded pitcher, was 1-4 with a 3.86 ERA and three saves in 25 relief appearances for the River Rats in 2006.  He struck out an impressive 56 hitters in 35 innings pitched and limited opposing batters to a .160 average.  He set the team record for consecutive strikeouts with seven againt the Wilson Tobs on June 6, 2006.  Gloor, now a sophomore with the Quinnipiac Bobcats, is 1-0 with a 3.98 ERA in six appearances, including two starts.  He has notched 21 strikeouts in 20 innings pitched and is limiting opponents to a .225 batting average. 
 
Nick Hall, a 6'2 switch-hitting infielder, hit .287 with seven doubles and 14 RBIs in 35 games for the River Rats in '06.  Hall, now a junior for the Washington State Cougars, is hitting .333 in eight games, including one home run and four RBIs. 
 
Rats notes:  
 
The River Rats are looking for up to 16 "New Bern Sporting Goods" Bat Boys for the summer.  Applicants must be at least 10 years of age and able to work games for most of the team’s ten week schedule.  Bat Boys will assist players and coaches in the dugout and on the field, and will be rotated between the River Rats and visiting teams.  Bat boys must purchase a jersey and provide their own baseball pants, but will receive a free kid’s 2007season ticket.  Applications are available online and at New Bern Sporting Goods.
 
The River Rats are also looking for girls ages 3 to 12 to join the new "Hearnes Jewelers Diamond Girls" cheerleaders at River Rats games this season.  Every girl who completes registration will be accepted.  Girls do not need any prior cheering experience.  Diamond Girls will need to purchase a cheerleading uniform but will receive a free kid’s 2007season ticket.  Applications are available online and at New Bern Sporting Goods.
