RIVER RATS ADD PITCHERS KALKAU & HORN;
NEW RIGHTHANDERS COME FROM FAMILIAR PROGRAMS

NEW BERN, NC—The River Rats have signed two pitchers new to the team, but from very familiar college programs.  Stony Brook junior righthander Jonathan Kalkau is on the same college staff as returning River Rat Tommy Koehler, while Trinity University sophomore righthander Britton Horn is currently playing with '06 Rats Nick Vera and Brian Oates. 

Kalkau, a native of Bellmore, New York, is 6-1, 220 lbs. and is having a very successful year for the Stony Brook Seawolves.  In eight appearances, including three starts, Kalkau is 4-0 with a 2.77 ERA and has 28 strikeouts in 26 innings pitched.
 
Horn hails from Deer Park, Texas, and is 6-3, 200 lbs.  In 13 appearances, including eight starts, Horn is 3-2 with a 4.76 ERA, including 40 strikeouts in 56.2 innings pitched.

Rats notes:   
 
River Rats "Traditional" and "Flex" season tickets are now on sale.  Traditional season tickets include one game ticket for each of the 30 River Rats home games in 2007 and are priced at $100 for adults, $75 for seniors and military, and $50 for children ages 3 to 12.  Flex plans include 30 undated vouchers which can be used in any combination for River Rats 2007 home games.
 
In addition to discounted ticket prices, season ticket holders receive a number of extra benefits.  These include a VIP Parking Pass (one per account, first 30 accounts only) and specials events like our “Meet the Players” pre-season picnic and “Batting Practice with the Team” in-season event.

The New Bern River Rats baseball club is a member of the Coastal Plain League, a high-profile wood-bat collegiate summer baseball league.  The team will open the 2007 season on Wednesday, May 30 against the Wilmington Sharks at New Bern High School’s Boykin Field.  All 57 games can be heard on the Meinke Car Care Center Broadcasts on ESPN Radio 1490 AM. The Coastal Plain League is the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 10th anniversary season, the CPL is the largest summer league in the country, featuring 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL is certified by Major League Baseball, and gives college players the chance to refine their skills with wooden bats during the summer months.
