EDENTON STEAMS RATS, 6-0

EDENTON, NC-The two-time defending Petitt Cup Champion Edenton Steamers were too much for the River Rats Saturday night, handing New Bern a 6-0 defeat in Edenton that snapped the Rats' three-game winning streak.

Two Edenton pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout. Andrew Elmendorf had two hits and Mike Mondesir pitched two scoreless innings in relief, striking out three.

Tonight marks "Fan Appreciation Night" at the ballpark! You'll find extra contests, prizes, and fun as we say thank you to all of the fans that have made this season so memorable.

A NEW RECORD ATTENDANCE AND GROWING

Tuesday night, the River Rats passed 10,000 fans in attendance for the second straight season. Friday night the River Rats set a new franchise record for attendance with 10,884 fans. With two final home games to be counted, we're eager to set the bar high so that next year we can soar even higher!

The New Bern River Rats baseball club is a member of the Coastal Plain League, a high-profile wood-bat collegiate summer baseball league. In 2006, the River Rats will play 29 home games at New Bern High School's Boykin Field. The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 10th anniversary season, the CPL is the largest summer league in the country, featuring 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL is certified by Major League Baseball, and gives college players the chance to refine their skills with wooden bats during the summer months.
